ETA: Access Hollywood is reporting that Adam Cook will be in the audience tonight. He’s David’s older brother who is stricken with brain cancer. He traveled to the live show on a donated medic plane. Groups have been trying to raise the money to get Adam back out to Hollywood for the finale.

David Archuleta's Dad Banned from Idol

TMZ has learned David Archuleta's dad, Jeff, has been officially banned from "American Idol."

Here's how it went down. "Idol" sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David's first song, "Stand By Me." Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston's hit, "Beautiful Girls." Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston's lyrics during the live show.

We're told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song's publisher and cost "A.I." a lot of money.

Jeff was ordered to sit with "A.I." lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was "banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs." It's "Idol's" position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian -- just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he's 86'd from anything backstage.

Here are some of the spoilers mentioned in Kristin's report:

Maria Shriver came out to an instrumental version of "Maria" from West Side Story. I wonder if she just wanted to die when that song played. She didn't waiver though. After all, she's a Kennedy so she's kind of a pro at this stuff. Shriver brought out some volunteers and asked to America not only to give money but to offer up their services and time to help their communities.
John Legend sang "Show Me." Fergie joined him but they cut the feed in our room so we could interview Snoop. Fergie also performed with Heart and did a cartwheel on stage. Whoa.
Billy Crystal came out and told the audience how Idol keeps him in touch with pop culture, "without Idol, I wouldn't know how to use the words 'yo dawg' in a sentence." Crystal then introduced Miley Cyrus. After some banter, Cyrus sang "Broken Chains." It was meh. I would love to hear Simon's critique of it. Miley performed later on: a faster song that allowed her to gyrate all around the stage. Or is she Hannah Montana when she does that? I don't get her.
Annie Lennox did a rather touching video package about the AIDS epidemic in Africa and then appeared on stage. She sang "Many Rivers to Cross". Her performance was beautiful (no big surprise there).
In his onstage bit, Jimmy Kimmel said "Simon Cowell is the reason Governor Schwarzenegger must work to secure the borders of this country." Then continued to roast the outspoken host of the show making fun of his shirts, his haircut and even his nipples.

Ramiele Malubay Exit Interview

Ramiele Maluaby was voted off American Idol on April 2, 2008 (4-2-08) during the Dolly Parton Theme Week. Ramiele will join tour this summer with the American Idol TOP 10. Here are bits and pieces of Ramiele’s exit interview.

About Her being voted off:

“I kind of felt like I was going home last night, not to be like all negative or anything, because I’m really not that kind of person,” Malubay tells reporters the morning after. “I just felt it a lot more when Dolly [Parton] sang that song. I was praying while she was singing and I’m all ‘Oh, I’m going home.’ But it’s OK. All of us have to leave sometime. There’s only one winner.”

About her performance:

“I actually didn’t know the song and I didn’t know any other songs aside from ‘I Will Always Love You,’ [which] is the obvious song that everybody knows,” she says. “I picked it and it was either that or a ballad and I listened to the song and I wanted to challenge myself to see how I could take a song and make it my own even though it wasn’t in the same genre or the kind of music that I’m kind of into. I’m proud of myself that I actually like moved on stage, performance-wise. I felt that I grew that night.”

About her height:

“I’m older than [David] Archuleta and he’d walk by me all the time and pat me on the head like I’m his little sister,” she laughs.

About the pressure each week:

“Honestly, the first week, I didn’t know it was such a big deal, up until people were telling me like, ‘You did really well’ and I’m like ‘Did I?’” she says. “So I was like, ‘Crap.’ And I let that get to my head and I’m like ‘Crap. Now I need to try and do better than that.’ When you overthink things like that, pretty much you just overthink it so far that you don’t know how to handle yourself anymore. Sometimes you just overthink it and the song just gets out of hand, it’s not in your control anymore.”

On her professed desire to be the first Asian-American Idol winner:
“I felt a little bit of pressure, just to see how the fan-base would grow and stuff. It was so flattering and it was really exciting, but then again I was like ‘Oh, I have to do well, not only for myself and not only for my parents, but for people of the same race and the people supporting me.’ I got as far as I could and I hope nobody’s disappointed.”

On whether or not her height was a disadvantage:
“I just hate wearing heels. If I don’t need to, I really won’t. That’s why last night I was like ‘Oh screw it. I’m gonna flats tonight.’ I wore flats last night and I was like, ‘The world’s gonna see how tall I really am’ and standing next to Carly in that long line, you saw how tall I really was.”

On what she learned from her Idol run:
“I learned to be more of a humble person. I learned to take things in more, to appreciate the little things and to be more courteous to people and to acknowledge every person who works on the show, because it doesn’t work without every single person who helps you out.”

"American Idol" Contestant Hospitalized, Released

Story from TMZ:

"A.I" contestant David Cook was rushed to the hospital last night after experiencing heart palpitations and high blood pressure, and released a few hours later. His condition is still not resolved.

As we first reported, Cook was not feeling well during the day and his condition worsened after his performance. Cook was examined by show medics who determined his blood pressure was "far too high." Cook was urged to leave for the hospital during the show, but he wanted to wait it out.

After the show, Cook was driven to the hospital (not by ambulance) and treated by a private doctor to keep everything on the down low. The doctor gave Cook medication to bring his blood pressure down and he will monitored again Tuesday.

An “A.I.” exec tells us Cook has been completely stressed out because his brother, who has been sick with cancer, had a setback within the last week. Earlier in the season, just before a performance, David collapsed and said he could not go on — though he pulled it together at the last minute.

Paula: "What's great about you is that you're consistent. Your are who you are ... You have an emotional connection with each song that you pick. And I think that's what record companies and executive want. You are Brooke White: excellent and wonderful."
Simon: "I totally disagree with Paula, because I think what was lacking on that song was any emotion. It looked like you were busking your way through the song. Chris Cornell is OK with David Cook’s Cover Of Billy Jean

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Were you told ahead of time that an Idol contestant was doing your version of “Billie Jean”?

CHRIS CORNELL: No. I had no idea. On my flight back from touring in South Africa, I started receiving messages from my fansite moderator and management [saying] that fans were furious about some American Idol guy who covered my version of “Billie Jean.” It appears the judges had no idea that it was my arrangement and were giving David Cook praise about how brilliant he was in performing the song that way. My fans are very protective and felt David should have volunteered the info [at that point]. Even though he did cover it well, and it was brave of him to try and pull it off.

Were you flattered by the performance?

Very much. It was clear to me [that] he was a big fan as he followed my arrangement down to the T, including the most subtle vocal nuances. I think he did a great job at pulling it off.
